Waterford tour 2012
Funded by the Arts Council Touring Award
The travelling library returned to Waterford in late 2011/ early 2012 for a follow up to our Rannta na nDeise project, which began in late 2010. This time Kids' Own partnered with both the County and City Library Services and the County and City Childcare Committees to develop a strong interagency programme that engaged 2-3 year old children and their parents/ guardians.
The Travelling Library was installed at Wateford City Council library throughout February, while the workshops were taking place, and then travelled to Tramore in March and April.
A brand new book of the children's work will be published later in the year (supported by Waterford City Library Service and Waterford City Childcare Committee) and we are also excited to announce that we will shortly be launching a brand new app for children and parents, which includes the work created during our County and City tours in 2011 and 2012.
About the Travelling Library
The Travelling Library is a national resource developed in 2010 by Kids' Own for installation in libraries, schools, festivals and other locations where it can be easily accessed by children and young people. The Travelling Library aims to provide a space where children and young people can engage with books made by their peers and to take part in their own response activity or participate in book-making workshops, facilitated by Kids' Own.
The Travelling Library can help to increase children and young people's interactive participation within libraries and aims to create a temporary dynamic space with specific focus on books made by children. As an interactive response area, children who engage with the Travelling Library can contribute their own work to the Travelling Library and help us to build on the genre of books made by children, for children, and see their work travel with the Library to other locations for other children to enjoy.
The Travelling Library responds to our aim to bring our books and our way of working to a wider number of children and family audiences across Ireland.
The Travelling Library's first tour was funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs (Reconciliation Fund).
