We are always being asked how much a Kids' Own publication costs: The answer of course, depends on the length of the development phase with the children, the size, and nature of the publication and the scale of distribution.

Schools are expected to contribute towards the project costs according to their means. In some cases schools raise this money through pre-sales of the publication to parents or through local business sponsorship. In some cases they underwrite their costs with the aim of recouping a percentage through sales once the book is published. In some cases support maybe in-kind, for instance workshop space may be provided by the local library.

All Kids' Own projects are subsidised by revenue grant aid from The Arts Council/AnChomhairle Ealaíon in the Republic and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland in the North. Sometimes additional grants may be applied to for specific projects from these bodies.

Costs

As a rough guide, a single publication project needs to raise approximately €15,000 or £11,465.
